Postpartum Midwifery Care
In-home support for your recovery after a hospital birth in the Bay Area
The first weeks after birth are often the least supported—and the most intense.
Most families leave the hospital with very little follow-up care, expected to navigate recovery, feeding, and adjustment largely on their own.
I offer comprehensive postpartum midwifery care in the Bay Area, with in-home visits for mom and baby, and ongoing support through the first six weeks.
What’s Included in Postpartum Appointments
Care includes both clinical assessment and ongoing support for you and your baby:
Physical recovery and healing
Newborn assessment and monitoring (vitals, weight gain, intake and elimination patterns)
Feeding support (breastfeeding and/or bottle feeding)
Emotional support and space to process your birth and early parenting experience
Early identification of postpartum and newborn complications
Labretory assessment, as indicated
Guidance as you adjust to life with a new baby
In-Home Postpartum Care
The first three visits take place in your home, so you can prioritize rest and receive care without needing to leave your space during early recovery. It’s also nice to avoid a germ-y waiting room with a newborn in the first couple weeks.
Later visits are held in-office.
Each visit is 60–90 minutes, giving us the time to move at a pace that feels supportive rather than rushed.
Typical schedule:
Visit 1: day of, or day after, returning home
(or in-hospital if your stay extends beyond 48 hours)
Visit 2: days 3–5
Visit 3: days 5–8
Visit 4: 2 weeks
Visit 5: 4 weeks
Visit 6: 6 weeks
Unlimited Text and Phone Support
In the postpartum, it can feel like each day is a new experience that brings with it new questions. Having a midwife available by phone 24/7 means getting support during late-night feedings when you are frustrated and exhausted, or getting reassurance that your bleeding is within the expected amount.
Why Ongoing Postpartum Care Matters
Many postpartum concerns don’t appear all at once—they unfold over days and weeks.
Without consistent care, it can be hard to know what’s normal, what needs attention, and where to turn.
The midwifery model sees the postpartum time as a vital period for bonding, nourishment, and transition. While the mainstream model separates obstetric care from newborn pediatric care, the midwifery model attends to the family as one interconnected unit.
Additionally, postpartum care is massively overlooked in our hospital system, and most new mom’s only see a provider for one postpartum appointment at six weeks after birth. The midwifery model seeks to widely expand the amount of support and health assessment for both parent and baby in the first six weeks.
